Wild
Child

Visual concepts by Roger Mattos

These concepts explore what it means to have been a child before the world asked you to grow up. Each piece is built from memory, from the objects and places that shaped a life before any of it had a name.

Scattered across the space are objects that defined Alex’s childhood: the red Fender guitar gifted by his father, a bodyboard from days at the California coast, a skateboard, a camera on the shelf preserving every memory. The child reaching for the wall isn’t decorating it. He’s writing the name of who he already was.

Two silhouettes frame the boy at the center. One solid, one outlined. They are his roots before he understood what roots meant, the people who made him who he was before loss had a word. The deliberate difference in how each is rendered carries the whole weight of the piece. Some absences arrive slowly. The boy smiles. He doesn’t know yet.

Both pieces draw from the same visual instinct that shaped Ordinary. A single figure, a vast sky, the feeling of standing at the edge of something enormous. Here that language becomes cosmic. A child on the moon. A child far from home, standing on rocks beneath an infinite blue. No clutter, no noise. Just scale and silence. The kind of image that doesn't need to explain itself.

RawMemorableStrikingPlayfulRockstar

An alternative version of Concept 01, Alex's personal favorite. The same room, the same wall. But this time the boy is facing you. Sunglasses on, his father's guitar in hand. This version carries more of that wild energy. The playful, fearless side that defines who Alex has always been.

NatureStillnessTextureIntimatePainterly

Nature as texture, texture as feeling. A painted close-up, soft and unhurried. The treatment pulls the image away from photography and closer to memory. A wilder side of Wild Child, but a quieter one.

Bold before you look twice. The colors hit first: that saturated blue, the red breaking through. Then the feeling settles in. A boy suspended in a vast open sky, no ground beneath him, nothing holding him back. That is the Wild in Wild Child.
